Let’s say you want to view, add, or request key metrics regarding a venture.

On the specific account page of the venture, select the Key Metrics tab. You should see the following:

Note that because we haven’t entered any metrics into the venture account yet, you cannot see the Actual Revenue vs EBITDA dashboard yet.

Select Key Metrics

Click on Select Key Metrics (1) to indicate what metrics you want to use. You will see the following pop-up window where you can search for or simply (un)select the metrics you want to add or edit.

If you want to add a metric that is not available yet, you’ll be able to create one yourself. For example, let’s say you want to include the number of guests that AirBnB hosts every month. Simply type the name you want to give the metric in the search bar (“# Guests Hosted”). Then, select Click Here as seen in the image below:

In the Create Key Metric pop-up window, you will need to enter the following data:

  • Metric Name: make sure to give it a representative but concise name.

  • Metric Fieldtype: you can choose between Number, Currency, and Percent.

  • Main Category: select the category that is most representative for your metric.

  • Metric Calculation Method: you can choose between Sum, Average, and Last Value. Your choice will determine the summarisation method. For example, choose “sum” for P&L items that you want to add up after a certain period, such as revenue. For balance sheet items, the “last value” option suits best, as you wouldn’t want to add up the cash position of every month for example.

Open Key Metrics

Click on Open Key Metrics (2) to give values to your metrics. At the top of the pop-up window, you can indicate whether you want to enter Actual/Budget/Forecast data and for what period. Once the correct reporting type and period has been selected, fill in the relevant data and then click on Save

Once you’re done, you’ll see your entry visualised in the report below. Dashboards are a great way to visualise your most important data on ventures, and more specific reports on other metrics can be found under the Report object in your navigation pane.

Request Key Metrics

If you want to have these metrics filled out by that particular venture, Venturelytic allows you to send them a so-called data request. Click on Request Key Metrics (3) to ask your data request contact at the portfolio firm to fill in the particular metrics for you. Again, you have the option to indicate the reporting types and for what period as seen below:

Let’s say you want to see the Actual vs Budget for all your key metrics. By simply clicking on this particular report, Venturelytic provides you with an overview of all the filled out data (see below). For more specific reports, navigate to the Reports object in your navigation pane.
