How to automatically calculate runway?

For a Dutch client of ours, we recently setup a Key Metric infrastructure, consisting of a set of metrics they found most relevant when tracking the performance of their portfolio companies.

As a VC, the cash position of their portfolio companies is a crucial metric to track. Therefore, we created a Runway formula metric within Venturelytic that provides users with the number of months the company has left until they run out of cash.

In the Salesforce Setup, key users can easily create such formula metrics. For this specific case, Net Cash Flow and the Cash Position were metrics filled out by the portfolio company, so these could be used as input metrics for the runway formula. The formula looks as follows: 

After creating the formula field, the key user only needs to add the key metric as new metric within a Key Metric Configuration record.
